Qualifiers are now underway to the $200,000 GUARANTEED Wynn Handicapping Challenge, to be held Friday and Saturday, August 1-2 at Wynn Las Vegas.

The Wynn’s handicapping contest is one of the more popular major events on the NHC Tour. With an entry fee of $2,000 and with entries typically exceeding 150+, the top finisher at the Wynn routinely walks away with well in excess of $100,000.

The Wynn contest is held over two days and covers only Saratoga and Del Mar as eligible contest tracks. It’s perfect for those players that prefer a mythical format ($2 Win/Place is the standard, with a double bet allowed each day) and those that may prefer contests with a smaller number of eligible races.

Probably the best part about playing in the Wynn is the opportunity to stay at the hotel while playing in the contest. The Wynn is widely considered one of the finest hotels in Las Vegas, with terrific room accommodations, award winning restaurants, shows (including Cirque du Soleil’s Le Reve), retail shops and of course, a plethora of gaming opportunities.

The Wynn Handicapping Challenge is run by John Avello, one of the most well-known and well-respected race/sportsbook operators in Las Vegas.

In the January edition of American Turf Monthly, Noel Michaels gave HorseTourneys top honors in his annual “Conny Awards,” meant to recognize the best of everything related to handicapping contests.

This is the second year in a row that Michaels has named HorseTourneys the top online tournament website.  In addition to that award, “The BIG One” was named the top new tournament.

HorseTourneys will begin offering qualifiers to the 2014 Del Mar Handicapping Challenge, to be held July 26-27 at Del Mar outside of San Diego.

The Del Mar Handicapping Challenge is a mega live-bankroll contest that carries an entry fee of $6,000 (representing a player’s bankroll).  In addition to cash prizes, qualifying seats to both the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge and Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship are offered through this contest.

Qualifiers begin at HorseTourneys on Sunday, Feb. 2.  While qualifying parameters may change, the initial qualifier will carry an entry fee of $240 and will offer one qualifying package to the Del Mar Handicapping Challenge per 38 entries participating.  The package will include the $6,000 entry fee/bankroll to the event PLUS $1,000 in travel reimbursement that will be provided to the player upon arriving at Del Mar.  Site credit prizes will be awarded to 2nd thru 4th place finishers in these main qualifiers.

Daily direct feeders will be run into each main Del Mar qualifier.  Those daily direct feeders will carry entry fees of $53 and award one $240 entry per 5 entries participating.

HorseTourneys qualifier Edwin Synowiecki turned an entry into the Hawthorne NHC Super Qualifier, which he earned in only a $52 qualifier, into a full NHC package in this past weekend’s event at Hawthorne Race Course outside of Chicago.  Synowiecki, from Chicago, won another $1,000 in cash as well as keeping nearly $1,500 earned through bankroll wagering.

Eight NHC packages are on the line, best of luck.

Starting this week, we’ve begun offering DIRECT feeders to qualifying contests that award entries or packages to the Hawthorne NHC Super Qualifier, to be held Nov. 31-Dec. 1 at Hawthorne Race Course outside of Chicago.  Direct feeders to the qualifying events, which will be held on one weekend date, will be offered most days HorseTourneys runs contests.

The Hawthorne NHC Super Qualifier will award EIGHT (8) NHC spots and is a live bankroll contest ($600 bankroll).  It is one of the best late season on-track qualifying opportunities on the NHC Tour schedule.
