Like packages of toilet paper during a pandemic, grand prizes at HorseTourneys and HorsePlayers last week were essentially limited to one to a customer. The only player to skirt the guidelines and sneak two into his shopping cart was Evan Trommer.

If you have a 2020 NHC Tour membership (and if you don’t, you can get one at NTRA.com), you need to be at HorsePlayers on Saturday for a free, 15-race Pick & Pray qualifier that will reward three contestants with berths to the big dance at Bally’s next February. That tourney represents three of seven guaranteed NHC spots on offer this weekend. There are also three guaranteed Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge entries available, a guaranteed entry to The BIG One and $61,000 in guaranteed cash. The weekend action (guaranteed to be fun) gets started on Friday.

With two races left in Sunday’s $8 Pick 6 Jackpot tourney, there were six entries still alive for a $12,633 windfall, and Charles McLaughlin owned two of the six. McLaughlin survived that next-to-last race but, in doing so, made a difficult tactical decision that may have ultimately proved costly.

We haven’t been able to been able to offer All Optional Live tourneys in quite some time…because, frankly, we haven’t had enough weekend tracks with which to create a 25-race schedule. That changes this week, however, with Santa Anita and Golden Gate back on board. We have six “AOL” featured tourneys—but those don’t start until Saturday. Our weekend begins on Friday, of course, and this Friday’s schedule includes an improved winning ratio in one of the week’s most popular events.

The recap blog is a day later than usual due to the Memorial Day holiday. So there’s more ground than ever to cover—25 featured events, to be exact. The first of them was a brand new contest combining the best of two different worlds.
There won’t be many parades, but there will still be plenty of exciting gatherings here at HorseTourneys over Memorial Day Weekend. For the first time, we will be offering not one but two $1,150 Big Bucks tourneys—one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Those are just two of more than 20 featured events on tap during a holiday weekend that, for us, gets rolling on Friday.
Per a joint decision between HorseTourneys and Laurel Park, The BIG One will be played online this year at HorseTourneys.com. The dates will remain the same—Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20, 2020.

Due to popular demand — which has resulted in quick sellouts of late — Big Bucks tourneys will now be offered on Saturdays and Sundays each week. They had previously only been available on Sundays.

It’s barely half-over, but what a month of May it has already been for Steve Arrison.
