Sixty-six of HorseTourneys’ most skillful players are headed to Las Vegas to compete in the $200,000 Wynn Handicapping Challenge. We’ll be on hand with live coverage. But even out there, we’re expecting cell phones and laptops to be very prominent as another big weekend unfolds at HorseTourneys and HorsePlayers.
HorseTourneys is proud to introduce its latest contest innovation—“Pool-Style” cash tourneys.
Though handicapping contests take place all year long these days, some players seem to do better during certain times of year. This can be because of the tracks running at the time; because of having more “quality time” available during a certain season; or just plain luck. We’re not sure of the reason, but Anthony Trezza has certainly hit his stride since the official beginning of summer.

Faron McCubbins of Mt. Washington, KY, turned his $5,000 starting bankroll into $64,535 to coast home in the $300,000 Del Mar Challenge. First Place was worth $120,000+ in prizes including a $10,000 entry in the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) at Del Mar in November. Along with his $64,535 bankroll winnings, total prizes amounted to over $185,000. In addition, a win for McCubbins in the BCBC will be worth a $1 million bonus.
Congratulations to Gary West, winner of the 2017 Gold Coast Summer Classic. Here is how the Top 20 finished:
We’re doing last weekend one better at HorseTourneys and HorsePlayers—20 featured tourneys are on the weekend docket, up from 19 a week ago. One of our very best games this weekend costs just $50 to play. And another is absolutely free!
For the first time ever, tournament players will be able to compete for a $10,000 seat to the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) for an entry fee of just $50.
If the name Kirk Tesar is unfamiliar to most tournament players, it is with good reason.
“Somehow I just wasn’t aware until last year—around Derby or Preakness time—that tournaments even existed,” said the 34-year-old manufacturing plant production manager from Plymouth, Indiana.
On opening weekend of both the Saratoga and Del Mar meetings, our marquee tourney was Saturday’s $75,000 Guaranteed event. The $30,000 first-place finisher was Kirk Tesar of Plymouth, Indiana. And–perhaps in true Hoosier fashion–his victory was workmanlike rather than showy.
The weekend that so many look forward to all year—opening weekend at Saratoga and Del Mar—is here and HorseTourneys is marking the occasion with 19 featured tourneys, including a special 13-race, $75,000 Guaranteed tourney on Saturday that pays $30,000 to its skillful winner.
