$8 Pick Six Jackpot Approaching $5,000 Mark

One of the great things about horse racing is the opportunity to risk a little to win a lot. That’s a big part of what we do every day at HorseTourneys, and there’s just such an opportunity here that’s getting bigger by the week — our $8 Pick 6 Jackpot tourney.

First, some background. It’s offered just once a week on Sundays, and there are two ways to win. Seventy percent of the net pool gets paid out to top finishers in the six-race tourney via the traditional $2 win/place scoring method, while the other 30 percent goes to the Jackpot. To hit the Jackpot, you have to Pick all six winners. (Yes, you could theoretically go 6-for-6, win the Jackpot, but not win the win/place portion of the tourney…though we think that’s highly unlikely to happen.) Unlike “single-ticket” Jackpot bets at the track, you don’t have to be the ONLY one to go 6-for-6. If multiple players do so in a given week, the Jackpot gets shared.

The thing is…no one has hit the Jackpot yet, and it’s up to $4,773 entering this Sunday’s action. People have come close to taking down the pot a couple of times. Last week, one player in the field of 70 swept the first three races while another swept the last three.

No one has put it all together yet, though. We think more and more people are going to play as the big prize increases. Eventually someone is going to hit it…so we wanted you to be aware of it in case you are interested. As the title of the tourney says, the entry fee is $8.00, and there is a maximum of three entries permitted per account. If $8.00 is too rich for your blood, we offer feeders for just $2.

It’s worth noting that $8 Pick 6 Jackpot tourneys are not Pick & Prays…they are always run in Live format. That means that (unlike traditional Pick 6 wagers) you can “watch the board” before every race. If you wish, you could simply opt to take the post time favorite in every race.

It may also be worth noting that our goal in selecting the races for this late-afternoon Sunday event isn’t to simply try and create another carryover. Frankly, we’d like to see the thing get hit. So we try very hard not to just schedule a half dozen 12-horse fields. We’re of the opinion that the more “solvable” (for lack of a better word) a Pick 6 sequence seems, the more likely people might be to take a swing at it.

Thanks to all of you who have enjoyed the game so far — and if you’re not among that group, perhaps you might want to be a carpetbagger and scoop the pot that others have built.

if, on the other hand, you have a fundamental distaste for Jackpot games…that’s fine too! We try to make sure there are options to suit many different tastes here at HorseTourneys.

  1. May be fun to also have a contest where you can pick 10 or so winners over the 6 races so there are more 6/6 winners in this kind of contest. A jackpot could still apply if only one player picks all 6.
