We’re going to have to start calling him “Del Mar” Dennis Montoro.

Travers Weekend is upon us, and we’re blowing it out with 34 featured events, including a slew of Spa & Surf Challenge qualifiers (Purse now up to $286,000!) and a brand new play-in to August 22 Del Mar Pacific Classic Betting Challenge. Of most note, however, are our Travers Day cash games. We have a $60,000 Guaranteed Live-format game and a $20,000 Guaranteed Pick & Pray. That’s in addition to the Big Bucks, Pick 6 Jackpot and all the other customary Saturday games and qualifiers.

With a pot that has already swelled to $244,260, the August 15-16 Spa & Surf Showdown will be a prime focus as we enter the next-to-last weekend of qualifying for the all-cash, online event. In addition to daily, multi-track qualifiers for the Showdown, we’ll also be offering single-track, direct qualifiers on the racing programs at Saratoga (where it’s Whitney weekend) and Del Mar all weekend long.

Starting today, single-track direct qualifiers for the August 15-16 Spa & Surf Showdown will be offered each racing day at Saratoga and Del Mar.

Make it eight featured-tourney triumphs during the month of July for Michael Caposio.

Del Mar is back this weekend—and so are our qualifiers to the Monmouth Pick Your Prize Challenge. We hope Del Mar stays with us now right through Labor Day, but we know Pick Your Prize qualifiers will only be with us for one more day.

It was a chalkier week than most—especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And yet a lot of familiar names were on last week’s roster of winners, demonstrating the versatility and adaptability of their games. Not only that, but the names of several (Jim Lisowsky, Mike Yurczyk and Jack Schwartz, to name three) appeared at the top on more than one day. The featured-tourney fun got started on Wednesday.

For much of 2020, it seems that the “won’ts” have outnumbered the “wills”—as in we won’t have fans at Saratoga this year…and we won’t have racing at Del Mar this weekend. However, racing fans have been blessed with more “wills” than have fans of almost any other sport, and there’s plenty to look forward to this weekend at HorseTourneys and HorsePlayers as we present 26 featured events, including six on Saturday and Sunday that will be run in All Optional Live format. And did we mention that Saturday is Haskell Day at Monmouth?

Dylan Donnelly didn’t win anything of note over Fourth of July weekend—and you know that wasn’t going to sit well with him.
