It’s Players Championship Weekend!

The second leg of the 2024 HorseTourneys Grand Slam takes place this weekend with the $350,000 Guaranteed Players Championship set for Saturday and Sunday here at HT.

Unlike the three other Grand Slam legs, the Players Championship is operated in All Optional Live format with contestants making 15 mythical $2.00 win-and-place place from among 30 eligible contest races each day. The entry fee is $2,000.

The four contest tracks each day will be Aqueduct, Gulfstream, Keeneland and Santa Anita—and there will be some extra excitement attached to Saturday with Aqueduct, Keeneland and Santa Anita playing host to the Wood Memorial, the Blue Grass Stakes and the Santa Anita Derby, respectively.

This is the fourth renewal of the Players Championship. Dan Wilde took the inaugural edition in 2021, earning $213,762. Riley Drexler made $161,212 for capturing the 2022 competition. Last year, Lucas Van Zandt emerged victorious and won $154,153.

In each leg of the HorseTourneys Grand Slam, points are awarded to Top-100 finishers with seats to the 2025 Grand Slam events set aside for the top three points accumulators throughout the series. The 3rd-place finisher in the series gets one seat of his or her choice to any leg, the runner up receives a seat to any two events, and the overall points champion gets a paid-up entry to all four.

The current HorseTourneys Grand Slam points leader with 100 points is Michael Solakis of Toronto. Solakis collected $168,000 in January after prevailing in Leg 1 of the series, the Flo-Cal Faceoff.

If you finished in the top 100 of the Flo-Cal Faceoff, then you already have at least one point. Here’s how the top of the leaderboard looks going into this weekend:

The 30 contest races that players can choose from on Saturday are the 7th through 11th from Aqueduct; the 4th through 11th at Keeneland; the full 12-race card from Santa Anita; and races 5-9 at Gulfstream. The deadline to enter the Players Championship on Saturday is approximately 2:26 pm ET (Post time for race 7 at Aqueduct).

Direct, 1-per-15 feeders ($156 buy-in) for the Players Championship continue right up until Saturday.

    • Straight cash, Paul. Per our payout schedule, the winner should get 40% of the pool, assuming we get at least 151 entries. The gtd. purse is $350,000.
