There was action and then some over the long, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend holiday with 23 featured events (most of them Pick & Prays) spread across four days. One of Friday’s stars was a player who would figure to be very good at calculating spots in which he has an edge.

It’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, and that means four, rather than three, days of featured tourney action on tap. Our Monday schedule has yet to be set as of press time, but we have a robust list of 21 featured tourneys lined up just from Friday through Sunday. Included among the 10 Sunday events are our first qualifier to the new (August 3-4) Spa & Surf Showdown, a last-chance opportunity to make next weekend’s Pegasus World Cup Betting Championship, a Big Bucks tourney, a “regular” $10,000 Guaranteed Pick & Pray and more. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though, because things kick off on Friday, which is a pretty good day in its own right.

In 2019, The BIG One—a small-field, high-expectation tournament—will once again be hosted at Laurel Park on the third weekend of September. HorseTourneys qualifying package winners will once again earn not only a seat to play in a field that will number no more than 57, they will also receive a three-night hotel stay, a travel stipend, a welcome dinner and full amenities including buffets and open bar at Laurel.
For all of the similarities, however, there are several important differences to point out regarding the 2019 renewal.

The past weekend had an extra urgent feel to it with Saturday marking the final day to earn 2018 NHC Tour points and with Sunday beginning the unofficial final push for 2019 NHC seats. It made for a frenzied three days of action that began on Friday.

This is as important a weekend as there is during the 2018 NHC Tour season—because it’s the last weekend of the season. Technically, it’s not even a full weekend because Saturday, January 12, is your very last day in which to earn NHC Tour points for the 2018 campaign. The final opportunity comes Saturday in a $100, five-seats-guaranteed qualifier at HorsePlayers. So many players will be coming out looking to improve their year-end totals for possible bonus money or to get onto the “Top 50 Not Qualified” Leaderboard, which guarantees those 50 an NHC seat.

HorseTourneys is delighted to announce the latest exclusive addition to its online tournament portfolio: The $100,000 guaranteed Spa & Surf Showdown on Saturday and Sunday, August 3rd and 4th, right here at HorseTourneys.

Anthony Trezza, an optometrist with a practice in Denville, N.J., had been on a self-imposed break from horse race handicapping of late. Given how much Trezza enjoys watching and wagering on NFL action, the first week of the playoffs did not seem the likeliest time for him to get off the horse racing “sidelines” but that’s what he did, and it proved to be a prescient move.

The new year has just begun, but the 2018 NHC Tour year still has a couple of weeks to go (until January 12 to be exact). You can still land a spot in the big dance on February 8-10 at Treasure Island…or win some big cash prizes and valuable seats to other prestigious tournaments all weekend long here at HorseTourneys and HorsePlayers. The featured action kicks off on Friday.

Effective Thursday, January 3, new payout rules are in place for our Survivor Jackpot games, which are available each week, Wednesdays through Sundays.
